Derek French, LAc


Derek French is passionate about the field of Acupuncture and Traditional East Asian Medicine, and the study of taichi, qi gong and yoga. He received a Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine, and an advanced massage certification from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (San Diego). Derek is a California Board Licensed Acupuncturist, and has practiced Acupuncture for 15 years.

Derek received an undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley in 1998, pursuing a self-designed study of ‘Order in Nature’ in the Interdisciplinary Studies Field Majors department.  He also took a minor in philosophy.

He concurrently completed an intensive 5 year apprenticeship to Master Peter Ralston at the ‘Cheng Hsin School Of Chinese Internal Martial Arts and Ontological Research’ in Oakland, CA beginning in 1993. The focus of the apprenticeship was taichi and internal martial arts, consciousness studies, and personal development. He has studied and taught taichi for 30 years.

Derek offers sports and family medicine for all ages. In the clinic, he implements a unique combinative approach to therapy, often utilizing advanced hands-on massage therapies and other specialized modalities, as well as topical liniments and heat therapy in conjunction with Acupuncture.

The clinic maintains an extensive pharmacy of raw and prepared herbal medicines. Custom prescriptions are given for both internal and external application, for the vast scope of ailments Traditional East Asian Medicine is effective to treat.

Derek is passionate to increase awareness, and have an impact in the fields of natural medicine and human potential.

In his free time he enjoys time with his wife and children, music, creative projects, and adventuring outdoors.
