Frequently Asked Questions

Is Acupuncture ‘One size fits all’?

Like many other disciplines, success in Acupuncture is relative to proper assessment, implementation of appropriate tools/techniques for the problem, and the technical skill of the practitioner.  Too many people who could be helped by this medicine aren’t, because one or more of these factors wasn’t present.  This is ‘full service acupuncture’, This is not ‘community acupuncture’. We are passionate about helping, and constantly bolstered by the success we see in treatment.

How does acupuncture work?

To understand how Acupuncture works, we start with the premise that the body/mind system is composed in a functional whole by an intricate network of energetic pathways responsible for the vital functioning of bodily systems, and healing of the organism. This is not fairy dust. In recent years modern science successfully imaged these pathways, and verified their existence. There are aspects of them we all experience in patterns of health, function and sensation. Such as the upward and side, frontal, or occipital patterns of common headaches. Or the way in which certain muscle groups will tighten in compensatory response to an injury. We can become increasingly more sensitive to these pathways in the body through feeling-study. This system and its design have been the subject of study, understanding and mastery in the field of Traditional East Asian Medicine for more than 3,000 years. The functional roles of these pathways, and the organs themselves, is far more sophisticated and interwoven than ‘modern medicine’ yet understands.

Acupuncture facilitates healing by guiding and amplifying the body’s innate capacity to correct and repair.  Some examples of this include rectifying imbalances, directing the healing power within an organism, releasing the exterior surface via perspiration, clearing pathogenic heat and inflammation, adding targeted warmth, targeted release of tension in muscle or connective tissue, unblocking stagnation, improving local or general circulation, dispersing excess or tonifying deficiency…

What kinds of ailments can acupuncture treat?

There is nothing acupuncture cannot treat. This system of medicine is marvelously effective treating common complaints such as musculoskeletal pain, migraine headaches, digestive issues, circulatory problems, insomnia, stress, anxiety, depression, and mental health concerns, fertility and sexual function, women’s health issues, men’s health issues, pediatric health issues, geriatric health issues, cognitive decline, bells-palsy, stroke recovery, managing effects of cancer treatment, postpartum deficiency and depression, carpal tunnel, tennis and golfer’s elbow, frozen shoulder, and any joint pain.  Back pain, sciatica, muscle pain of any cause or location, nerve pain, and the list goes on.

Is acupuncture useful beyond health complaints?

Acupuncture, and related health practices such as taichi and qi gong, have developed as means to improve health and counter disease and pain, but also to generate exceptional immunity and longevity, to reach peak physical performance, improve functional capacity, skill, discernment and sensitivity.

It is also popular and very effective in countering the effects of aging, aesthetically, physically, and mentally.
